The first time I saw the hot pink tear drop shaped makeup sponge at my local beauty store, I'm not gonna lie, I didn't want it near my face. I mean, it's hot pink! Weird! Plus, it was shrouded in loads of unneccessary packaging! My boycott started at first glance. But when my friend Irissa insisted that I try it and sent it on over, I gave it a go. And you know what? The Beautyblender has changed my life! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Unlike regular triangle sponges that tear at your skin, leave trail marks and, in my case, exacerbate my dry skin, The Beautyblender is smooth, quick, and let's you flawlessly apply anything from primer and liquid foundation, to moisturizer and a face mask (oh, and smoothly take it off without hurting your skin). Plus, you can use it to pat on (stipple to use pro vocab) and blend in powder and cream blushes, bronzers, etc. But, that does take a little practice.
The rounded curves of this sponge makes makeup application a cinch; you get a clean, even finish effortlessly. Thanks to the shape, you smoothly get access to hard-to-reach areas like under the eyes and the sides of the nose. Celebrity makeup artists Rea Ann Silva and Veronica Lorenz made the Beautyblender so it'd actually mimic the same texture of the skin. And that extra packaging I scoffed at? It's a special holder so it stays clean in your bathroom, natch! Totally brill.
I've been using my blender for six weeks and still love it! The only downside is that you have to clean it with its own special cleanser which is an additional $19.95. I tried cleaning it with my gentle face soap but saw that it was tearing up the fibers. But, on the plus side, they do make travel packets of the cleansers so you can take your blender to go.
You can buy it online at beautyblender.net (I'd recommend the Double Duo to Go for the best value that'll last you six months @ $39.95!).
